This seemed to be a substitute for past years when Insomniac had a designated stage for Discovery Project winners. Every single sub-genre of EDM was represented; tech-house, deep house, progressive, electro, dubstep, trap, etc. Day one started off sunny with 50, enthusiastic festival-goers filling nearly every crevice of the venue. By pm Metlife was packed, and to better suit the large number of attendees, Insomniac did a wonderful job of placing water stations nearly everywhere, which was also an improvement from Action was taken immediately and stages were shutdown.
Attendees were provided shelter from the rain inside the stadium walls. Following his set I made sure to make as much use of my time as possible by checking out more outstanding performances by other producers. DJ Snake was one artists that I had yet to cross off my list, and it was well worth the wait. The first day ended with a ton of kickass performances and fireworks.
Finally after a long, exhilarating and action-packed day, everyone exited the venue to rest up and restore their energy for yet another music-filled day at Metlife. Day two could not have started off any better.
The one thing that stood out when watching his performance is the fact that there was not one second in which the man was not smiling. Lucky for me, I had the pleasure to get to know the Dutch producer a bit better with an interview following his performance. The man can bang hard tracks for hours and still keep the crowd moving in for more. He leveled the crowd with his live tweaks of fan favorites like his remix of Ellie Goulding's "Lights" and an extra-heavy dosage of his collaboration with Lupe Fiasco, "Vava Voom.
Off in the Cosmic Garden, a completely different musical journey was unraveling with Loco Dice, a master of the minimal, and his own unique brand of tribal tech-house that creeps into your senses. It's subtle and sexy music, and it ignited some random dance-offs in the crowd — definitely a musical experience fit for Electric Daisy.
Perfect weekend weather complemented the successful kick-off of EDC New York, which finally crossed a hurdle by simply happening. Afrojack has built a global brand that is recognized for influencing attitudes and championing new levels of change for the music world. It is clear from his exponential growth that there is no stopping him.
